Alice Hogarth is a Jamaican-born educator, playwright, and producer of more than 50 staged theatre productions. Her life’s work has been devoted to shaping young hearts through drama, discipline, and faith.
Her creative journey began in 1989 while teaching at Hillel Academy in St. Andrew, Jamaica. When she could not find a Christmas play that reflected the values she wanted her students to learn—gratitude, compassion, and generosity—she wrote her own. That decision marked the beginning of a powerful calling.
In 1994, Alice founded her own Children’s Theatre Company, trading as Wonderland Productions. Over the next decades, she wrote and produced more than 50 plays, many of which were staged at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts at UWI Mona. Her productions blended storytelling, dance, music, and moral lessons, receiving standing ovations and touching the hearts of families across Jamaica.
For Alice, drama was never just performance.
It was education.
It was formation.
It was ministry.
After retiring from theatre in November 2019, Alice transitioned from stage to page—transforming her beloved productions into written stories so they could reach children around the world. Through every story she creates, Alice continues her mission: to remind families that character matters more than possessions, gratitude is greater than entitlement, and transformation is always possible.
Currently, Alice remains an active teacher, tutoring in literacy development, reading, writing, critical thinking, and more. She is working on her next book, How to Teach 3 to 4-Year-Olds Reading and Writing for Academic Success, offering valuable insights for parents and educators to build a strong academic foundation for young learners.
From Brat to Blessing invites children, families, and schools to reflect on gratitude, kindness, and the importance of giving.
